Patricia Allen Arrested For Allowing Her Three Children Drown
Police said Allen was playing with her three and four-year-old children at the time, with her back turned to her nine, 10, and 11-year-old.
Patricia Denise Allen was arrested Friday and jailed on one count of injury to a child, which is a second degree felony. The charge hasn’t been filed yet.
Police say the drownings were initially investigated as accidents, but during the investigation they talked to witnesses who said Allen was on her phone and texting while her children were in the pool.
Bond said churches planned to reach out to Allen and to post her $50,000 bond on Monday, reports the station. She said she’s confident “this matter” will be dismissed. It wasn’t until the witnesses entered the pool area that Allen recognized that her children had disappeared under the surface of the water.
Police said 30-year-old Patricia Allen was arrested Friday in connection with the drowning deaths. August died shortly after being pulled out of the pool.
Two other witnesses said that when they got to the pool, the three children were missing and Patricia Allen was doing nothing to find or rescue them.
“””(The witnesses) walked up to the pool and saw the mother sitting on the edge of the pool looking outward toward the deeper end of the pool and also observed that the water was still and calm, that there was no flapping or splashing or bubbles in the water”, Irving Police Spokesman James McLellan told the CBS affiliate.
The three children were identified as 11-year-old Anthony Smith, 10-year-old August Smith, and 9-year-old Treshawn Smith. “To go after her is absolutely unreasonable”, Turley said. This is not the first time the apartment building’s two swimming pools have had issues, with cloudy water and unsafe conditions being noted during inspections.
The pool in question has been cited for past violations, including having murky water, gates that don’t latch and a need for new life poles, according to the Morning News.
