Patrick Dempsey Joins the Cast of Bridget Jones’s Baby
Patrick Dempsey is in final negotiations for a role in Bridget Jones’s Baby, the third instalment of the Bridget Jones franchise.
It is not certain what exact character Dempsey is going to play, but Hugh Grants absence leaves a spot open for romantic rival for Colin Firth’s character, Mark Darcy, Bridget Jones’ love interest.
Bridget Jones’ Baby is the “much-anticipated third installment” in the series of film adaptations based on Fielding’s novels.
Past year he said he would be interested in filming another Bridget Jones movie so long as it had “somewhere to go”.
Patrick Dempsey has really moved on from his role as Dr. McDreamy in the medical drama “Grey’s Anatomy”, and the actor is now focused on moving ahead with new projects.
She directed the original Bridget Jones’s Diary in 2001 (Beeban Kidron was at the helm for second movie, Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason) and now Sharon Maguire’s back for Bridget Jones’s Baby.
But Grey’s Anatomy’s future is now uncertain since the departure of Patrick Dempsey, as a petition was created for Shonda Rhimes to bring McDreamy back.
Whatever Dempsey’s role is, it will be his first on-screen appearance since (spoiler alert, again) his Grey’s Anatomy character was killed off earlier this year.
Rumours have been circulating for some time now that a third Bridget Jones movie is happening. Hugh Grant’s caddish Daniel Cleaver, however, will not return. Production is set to begin in October.
