Patrick Kane Holds Disastrous Q&A At Blackhawks Training Camp
National Hockey League star and South Buffalo native Patrick Kane spoke publicly Thursday afternoon for the first time since rape allegations surfaced.
McDonough, the Blackhawks’ president, opened the press conference by saying: “The Chicago Blackhawks organization prides itself in trying to make calculated and deliberate decisions based on information we have at the present time”. Patrick Kane is dealing with a very serious situation. “I can not apologize enough for the distraction this has caused my family, my team”.
Kane took questions from the media, but did not answer questions about the investigation. Why with all the facts the Blackhawks have obtained from Kane’s legal team still keep him if they believed he was guilty?
With that from McDonough, the keeper of the Blackhawks’ cherished brand, Kane was brought before the media to address the allegations stemming from his actions in the early morning hours on August . 2 in his home in Hamburg, N.Y., which launched an investigation. Instead, team officials asked that Kane only receive questions about hockey, as if anyone in the room was there to talk about his workout regimen or the Blackhawks’ Stanley Cup defense. My body feels really good. In the meantime, prosecutors are working to send the case to a grand jury later this month.
“I know you guys have a lot of questions”. McDonough also said reports he had a “volcanic” reaction to Kane’s situation were a “complete fabrication”. The legal process will decide the future of Kane.
But Kane stuck to script, telling each journalist that he appreciated their question before then dodging that question and giving a useless answer. “Furthermore, we have the utmost respect for the legal process and will have no further comment on this issue at this time”.
When asked if he thought his team would be affected by the investigation, however, Head Coach Joel Quenneville said, “I think we’ll be fine”. But the No. 1 overall pick in the 2007 draft returned in time for the playoffs, helping the Blackhawks to their third Stanley Cup title in six seasons. “I will say this hasn’t been an easy situation for any of us to deal with”, McDonough said. “We’re doing the best we can within the framework of what we can talk about today”, McDonough said. Which of course they haven’t respected by having Kane at camp.
