Patriots lose Bob Quinn to Lions
Quinn’s hire represents the Lions’ first true outside hire for general manager in decades, and he’s stepping into a franchise with a lot of offseason questions – some immediate and some to be dealt with a little bit down the road.
The Detroit Lions are planning to hire Bob Quinn as their new general manager, ESPN Insider Adam Schefter reports.
Quinn, 39, joined the Patriots in 2000 as a player personnel assistant and has been with the organization ever since, winning four Super Bowls and climbing up the ranks. The Lions hired MI native Rod Wood to replace Wood in late November but had yet to name a new GM as of Friday.
Quinn, 39, has worked for the Patriots the past 16 years, and he has been their director of pro personnel since 2012.
Neither Quinn nor Ernie Accorsi, who’s advising the Lions on the GM search, returned phone calls seeking comment. Caldwell is in his second stint as an National Football League head coach, McDaniels previously coached the Denver Broncos, and Patricia has never risen above defensive coordinator.
Quinn and the Lions were working out the final details of his contract Friday night, according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, and reportedly had the support of Patriots head coach Bill Belichick in the process. “[He’s] been with us for a long time and has had a number of different responsibilities in the scouting department – pro, college, advance, different projects and all that”.
