Patriots OT Nate Solder reveals son is battling kidney cancer
New England Patriots offensive lineman Nate Solder has revealed that his infant son, Hudson, has cancer.
According to the Boston Herald, Hudson has a Wilms’ tumor and he has already had a few rounds of chemotherapy at Boston Children’s Hospital. However, Solder played the entire 2014 season after doctors removed the affected testicle and didn’t make his diagnosis known until a year later. He has since publicly worked to raise awareness about the disease.
Howe said Solder was speaking at a gala benefiting the Joe Andruzzi Foundation on Monday night when he revealed the news.
The 6-foot 8-inch, 320-pound Solder said he went public about his son’s illness to provide comfort and strength to other families undergoing to same thing. Andruzzi is a 10-year National Football League veteran, a three-time Super Bowl champion as a member of the Patriots, and a cancer survivor himself. Shortly after the story spread, Solder tweeted a picture of Hudson, thanking everyone for the support he received.
