Patriots’ Tom Brady hopes ‘qualified’ Colin Kaepernick ‘gets a shot’
Both the Saints and the Patriots enter the game with a record of 0-1 following losses to the Kansas City Chiefs and Minnesota Vikings respectively last week. The problem with the Saints is they couldn’t get a running game going, they were in third and long too much and needed to score every time they touched the ball because their defense was presenting itself like a female bonobo.
SUSTAINED PRODUCTION: Brady and Brees have combined for staggering passing numbers: 128,251 yards and 922 TDs.
Asked by O’Donnell if there was any chance 2017 could be his final National Football League season, Brady said, “No. No”.
The Patriots’ quest to defend their Super Bowl 51 title took a major detour last Thursday.
Brady said Wednesday it is too early to tell if the team has discovered the urgency that was missing against the Chiefs.
Brees recalled how Brady, then a senior, had to share snaps with Drew Henson in the midseason game. “I think you’ve got to change up the looks and I think you do have to try to disrupt him at times off the line of scrimmage, but they do a good job of moving him around and putting him in different spots”. “Yet, his approach and his discipline during that time – he played at such a high level, but he just anxious about what he controlled”. Brady had an ugly game in not throwing for a touchdown, and finishing 16 for 36 for 267 yards.
He’s tried a “little bit” of salt and “on occasion” has some sugar. Brady sent him in motion to the slot – a place where Burkhead said himself he’d be comfortable if need be – and ran a perfectly executed fade route over rookie linebacker Alex Anzalone in man coverage to open the game’s scoring with a 19-yard strike.
In an interview that will air on “CBS Sunday Morning” on Sunday (9 a.m. ET), Brady said of concussions, “I don’t worry about them, no. We’ve got our work cut out for us”. I’ve stayed encouraged with the way that our guys work and compete and look we didn’t play as well as we needed to last week and certainly the way we thought we were capable of playing.
Drew Brees (27 of 44 for 356 yards and two touchdowns) tried to keep the Saints close, connecting with Brandon Coleman on a five-yard fade that began a 10-point comeback in the second quarter and cut New England’s lead to 20-13. Gronkowski had six catches for a team-high 116 yards. Now, I know I predicted that Brady would have the worst year of his career and retire at the end of the season.
