Patriots will sign Steven Jackson
Patriots head coach Bill Belichick checked the mail this morning and much to his delight, his new LeGarrette Blount arrived.
The Patriots will be signing 32-year-old running back Steven Jackson to give them depth down the stretch, a source confirms.
A three-time Pro Bowler, Jackson has rushed for 11,388 yards in parts of 11 seasons with the Falcons and the St. Louis Rams.
Jackson tweeted Monday for the first time since September, posting a photo of himself working out accompanied by the caption, “I’m back”. Blount was the team’s leading rusher with 703 yards and six touchdowns.
After playing Sunday against the Titans with second-year player James White, core special-teamer Brandon Bolden and rookie Joey Iosefa as their only running backs, the Patriots will reportedly add a very experienced back to the mix. Jackson is still 6-3. He ran for a total of 1,250 yards with 13 total touchdowns (12 rushing) in 27 games. Jackson last made the postseason with the Rams back in 2004, though he was backing up Marshall Faulk.
Jackson spent nine years with the Rams before signing with the Falcons in 2013, the year after they played in the NFC Championship Game.
