Patriots win 27-26 at Giants on last-second long field goal
Manning’s slide forced New England to use its last time out, but the time remaining was just enough for the Patriots to set up Stephen Gostkowski for a 54-yard game-winning field goal.
The New England Patriots staged another fourth quarter comeback yesterday to beat the New York Giants by a score of 27-26.
“This is tough, this is tough”, veteran defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins said.
“I’m happy we got the win in the meantime”.
The rule, as it stands now, states that the receiver must become a runner in order for a catch to stand; similarly, in the end zone the receiver must become a runner before the “breaking the plane” rule comes into effect.
“That’s on me”, Beckham said.
On the first drive of the game, the Patriots drove down the field with no difficulty.
Brady was hit throwing the ball and it rainbowed down the middle of the field to a waiting Landon Collins.
But he did consent to the fact that if he’d simply held onto the ball, the game likely would have turned out differently and everyone would be spared the rigmarole of what defines a catch wouldn’t be necessary. He tried to grab the ball at its high point, seemingly lost his balance and fell to turf, hitting his head and losing the ball. “You just got to make the play itself”. His pass was behind Brandon LaFell, running a slant on the left, and Trumaine McBride made a diving catch at the 1. “And I think that we learned a lot about the character and the make-up of this football team and it’s going to take us a long way”.
It certainly wasn’t flawless, but this might have been the most impressive win of the season for the Pats. It’s very, very frustrating. They just didn’t get it. That is a big part of why they didn’t win the game.
Edelman sustained the injury during the last play of the first quarter in the Pats’ 27-26 victory over the New York Giants last Sunday.
The Patriots inexorably marched downfield with the opening kickoff on a 14-play, 80-yard drive. The drive ended with Tom Brady finding tight end Scott Chandler in the back of the end zone for a touchdown.
Edelman’s injury is not dissimilar to the Jones fracture that Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant suffered in Week 1 against the New York Giants; Bryant missed six weeks (five games). That, of course, starts with Brady, who continues to play out of this world. Hopefully their bye week works to reset the focus of the team so they’re able to take on the Redskins strong, and maintain their first place position within the NFC East, and keep their playoff dreams alive. But the Patriots were expecting a run, and stacked the box against it, so the Giants changed the call at the line of scrimmage.
MANNING: GOOD AND BAD: Eli Manning completed 24 of 44 for 361 yards and two touchdowns and no interceptions.
“In the end our guys made the plays they need to make”. Manning had a career-best for one half with 251 yards passing. They still have Tom Brady and Gronkowski.
