Paul asks party leaders to include him in prime-time debate
Rand Paul did not qualify for the prime-time debate, and will be placed on the undercard. “They’ve been saying for months they’re going to narrow the field”.
On Thursday, GOP candidates are participating in two debates at the North Charleston Coliseum and Performing Arts Center.
“We do not think that anyone should be able to characterize our campaign as anything less than first tier”, Paul said.
The Des Moines Register concluded their polling by January 10 – the same as the Quinnipiac and ARG surveys, which were included – but they did not release the poll until 6 a.m. Wednesday morning, 36 hours after the deadline.
Paul and Fiorina were invited to the “undercard” debate along with former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee and former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum.
Asked by Joe Scarborough why he was being “kept out”, Paul eventually put the blame on the Republican Party rather than the media, changing his tack somewhat from earlier statements that the media should not be determining the lineup. CNN allowed a last minute Fox News poll to influence the network’s decision to permit Paul to be onstage for the previous GOP debate. As it did for a Republican debate it covered in November, Fox Business will be made available to subscribers to certain systems. Trump was in Pensacola, Florida, where he also questioned whether Ted Cruz is eligible to run for President. Know your limit and drink in moderation, because as Surgeon General Vivek Murthy points out, “You simply can’t drink every time one of these guys says something silly…”
