Paul Ryan Thinks People Losing Health Insurance Is About Freedom, Not Access
“I think just morally, spiritually, socially, (some people) just don’t want health care”. But few are as concerned as those with pre-existing health conditions. Secrest says this new legislation also does nothing to lower the cost of medication, which has increased under the Affordable Care Act.
The AARP and its 48 million members are against the GOP plan. That is because having a mandate allows the ACA to include such strong consumer protections, because the mandate increases the number of healthy people in the insurance market.
Medicaid also is one of the most costly items in the state’s budget, accounting for $25.9 billion – about $15.2 billion in federal matching funds and $10.6 billion in state funds – in fiscal year 2015-16, according to the state’s Department of Human Services. “We need to have Democrats involved so that what we do will not only be significant, but will last”. “That doesn’t provide the same incentive to buy insurance as the mandate does”. Far from repealing Obamacare or replacing Obamacare, it only tweaks the Affordable Care Act and does nothing to drain the swamp.
First, a little background.
The president promised many times that he’d have a replacement for Obamacare – which he repeatedly described as a “disaster” – that would make health care cheaper, better and affordable. “In fact, I believe, again, that we’ll have more individuals covered”, he said. “You have premiums going up, you’ve got deductibles where people have an insurance card but they don’t have any coverage, have a third of the counties in this nation that only have one insurer offering coverage, five states with only one insurer offering coverage”, Price said in a pre-recorded interview broadcast Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press”.
“While we agree that there are problems with the ACA that must be addressed, we can not support the AHCA as drafted because of the expected decline in health insurance coverage and the potential harm it would cause to vulnerable patient populations”, it said.
“If true, or the allegations were left out there, it undermines the confidence the American people have in the entire way that the government does business”, McCain said.
Critics of Republicans’ legislation to repeal and replace Obamacare says Arizona could suffer huge financial and job losses. The basic structure remains intact, as was inevitable.
At the same time, conservative groups and their allies in Congress have stepped up attacks on the proposal, which they deride as “Obamacare 2.0” and “Obamacare Lite”. Twelve million people have gained insurance through this program.
Republican Senator Mike Lee is perhaps the loudest opponent of the GOP health care bill among Utah lawmakers. You have to buy a costly, comprehensive suite of coverage. Obviously there’s much more to be worked out here. Yet Ryan, who introduced the bill almost a week ago, said he “can’t answer” how many people stand to lose their coverage should the House GOP bill be passed into law.
The coalition looked at analysis of the new law, provided by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP), a nonprofit and non-partisan group.
