Paul: Trump is ‘Gollum’
During an appearance on the Steve Malzberg Show the elder Paul was asked, “Realistically, is Trump going to be the nominee at this point?”
After an extended pause, Paul lowered his voice and admitted: “At this point, it certainly is realistic”.
“They pick people, they boost them up, it’s entertainment and [GOP presidential front-runner Donald] Trump really fitted into that quite well”.
Somehow, the above was marketed Wednesday night and Thursday morning under a variety of titles, including, “Ron Paul admits Donald Trump, not his son, will probably be the GOP nominee” and “Ron Paul Walks On Rand, Says Donald Trump Will Likely Win The Nomination”.
In an interview with PBS NewsHour’s Gwen Ifill on Thursday, the Kentucky Republican said that his campaign has a “real shot” of reaching its goal to draw 10,000 students to the polls next month – an ambitious goal for any GOP candidate, including the current front-runners, Sen.
Ron Paul is a former Texas congressman who ran for president three times.
The Lord of the Rings is about how power corrupts, but it is not a Libertarian allegory a la Ayn Rand; nor does Paul ever address the fact that if Trump is Gollum, he must also be Sméagol. “We’re going to find a way to exclude you.’ So they excluded Rand Paul”, Paul said.
“I think he may well surprise everyone, because he has a good organization and caucus states are different”. Rand Paul later boycotted the event entirely.
According to the Huffington Post poll tracker, Rand Paul stands at 2.7 percent nationally while Trump commands the lead with 37.4 support.
Paul said his campaign has placed 500,000 phone calls to voters across Iowa and has 1,000 precinct chairs in the state, more than any of his GOP rivals, with two weeks to go before voting begins.
But he added that the system isn’t fair, noting his son’s exclusion from the main stage in last week’s Republican debate.
