Paul Walker’s father suing Porsche over fatal crash which claimed actor’s life
Paul Walker’s father is suing Porsche after his son died in a auto crash back in 2013.
NY Daily News reports that the suit claims the Carrera GT in which Walker died while riding as a passenger didn’t have safety features which might have prevented his death.
Walker was riding in a speeding Carrera GT driven by friend Roger Rodas when the vehicle spun out of control, struck three trees and burst into flames on a street in Santa Clarita, Calif.
The 40-year-old Hollywood star was on a break from filming the seventh instalment of the film franchise at the time of the accident.
PEOPLE has reached out to Porsche for comment.
The lawsuit cites features that have been included in other pending lawsuits against the company over the crash, that it is claimed might have saved the actor’s life. The lawsuits follow a similar wrongful death lawuit filed by Walker’s daughter, Meadow Walker, in September.
Porsche disputes that the design was defective, reportedly saying “the subject 2005 Carrera GT was abused and altered”.
Meadow’s attorney Jeff Milam quickly criticised the response.
None of the cases have been set for trial. It should be noted that she also has a pending claim against Porsche in federal court.
Investigators concluded the Porsche was going much faster – up to 94 miles per hour (151 kph) – when it crashed.
After a four-month investigation, Los Angeles officials said the crash had been caused by excessive speed and not mechanical failure.
Porsche also used side door reinforcement bars that lacked adequate welds and were made of material weaker than what is used in most popular cars, including the Honda Civic, according to both lawsuits. Meadow Walker, 17, is the sole heir of his estate, which is controlled by the actor’s father, Paul William Walker III.
