Paulsen has single in 9th, lifts Rockies past Rangers
DENVER (AP) – Troy Tulowitzki and the Colorado Rockies could not keep their streaks going against the Texas Rangers.
The Rockies will face the Rangers for the first time this season as they start a six-game homestand. Rockies first baseman Ben Paulsen thought there were two.
Colorado Rockies catcher Nick Hundley, front, turns to make the tag but is unable to get Texas Rangers’ Rougned Odor out as he slides safely across home plate to score on an infield out by Prince Fielder in the fifth inning of a baseball game Monday, July 20, 2015, in Denver. Choo had an RBI double in a three-run second inning and led off the fourth with his 12th homer to make it 4-0.
With a pair of men on, the Texas Rangers star smacked a grounder to first and Paulsen snagged it, recorded the out and trotted over to the dugout.
The Rockies had runners on first and third with two outs in the fifth, but Choo made a sliding catch on Tulowitzki’s sinking liner in right to end the threat. He pitched a combined six innings in two starts for the Triple-A Express before Monday’s recall.
The game saw the Rockies sending Chris Rusin (3-3, 3.88 ERA, 40 K) to the mound against Nick Martinez (5-5, 3.92 ERA, 59 K) of the Rangers.
It was Colorado’s fourth walk-off win of the season, but it didn’t seem necessary after the Rockies took a 7-0 lead in the second inning.
Paulsen acknowledged that the close play, on a single from Odor, had him thinking two outs. I didn’t even think to look up at the board.
Tulowitzki reached base for the 41st straight game, tied for second longest in team history behind Michael Cuddyer (46 in 2013). Peralta has 11 RBIs in his last 14 games. “It’s always concerning when there’s elbow inflammation with a pitcher”. Harrison has started just seven games since 2012 because of four surgeries, three on his back.
Ranaudo, 25, is 0-1 with a 7.63 ERA in four relief appearances for the Rangers this season.
Harrison (1-1) had not won since beating the Rockies on May 8, 2014.
