Payton: Too Early To Say If Drew Brees Will Miss Playing Time
New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees is expected to miss games with a shoulder injury, according to a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Early in the game, the Saints passed on Hocker trying a 53-yarder, instead electing to punt.
But the Saints, who are already stuck in an 0-2 hole to start this season, will have to prepare for that possibility for the first time this week.
With Brees getting up there in age at 36 and now dealing with a shoulder injury suffered in Sunday’s loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Bleacher Report’s Jason Cole does not believe the Saints will make a significant commitment to the nine-time Pro Bowler moving forward. Wait, on second thought, that’s exactly what they are. “But his attitude is great and he doesn’t get down on himself”.
“From a grand scheme of things, look, we’ve got this roster right now and Clark Kent’s not walking in the door”, Payton said. “Who knows what my future holds, but I just want to put our team in the best possible situation I can for us to win”.
“When you have a game like today you get frustrated as a head coach, you are frustrated as a play-caller, you are frustrated in a lot of areas”, Payton said.
Of course, he was raw in the preseason and has much room for improvement. Andrews has reportedly instructed Brees that a hard week of rehab will be vital for his playing chances.
The six-game losing streak is the longest for the Saints in the Superdome since they dropped 10 in a row in a two-season span in 1979-80. Both running backs will be critical for Brees in Week 3. We will have a better feel on Wednesday with where he is at.
Once upon a time, Browner was part of that Super Bowl winning Seattle team two years ago, and again with the New England Patriots in 2014, so he brings that championship demeanor to the table as well.
Will his commercial come true? Brees tersely downplayed the severity of the injury when pressed on whether he harbors any concerns about long-term effects.
“Me and Vince have a tremendous connection”, said Winston.
Winston’s resilience has been something the Bucs have been impressed by all along and Smith said Sunday’s performance was an example of that.
It was a typical Saints-Bucs game of late with a new twist at the end. He finished with 255 yards and one touchdown.
-Saints starting defensive end Akiem Hicks said Monday he was benched by Payton in the third quarter of their 26-19 loss to the Bucs on Sunday, but Payton said it was a rotational decision. And though the 49ers appear to be a team without many Ws remaining on the schedule, they are 1-1 while the Saints are not.
