Peaceful remembrance for man killed by police in Baton Rouge
The campus resides just a few miles from where Sterling lost his life, after being shot at point-range by said law enforcement officials from the Baton Rouge Police Department, after being pinned to the ground outside the Triple S convenience store. According to local reports, Al Shapton and Jesse Jackson will attend. A day after Sterling’s death, Philando Castile was shot and killed by a police officer in Minnesota during a traffic stop with his girlfriend streaming the aftermath of the black man’s death live in Facebook. Police say they shot him because he tried to reach for a gun in his pocket. “He was truly the meaning of southern hospitality”, Muflahi said.
Funeral services are scheduled for later on Friday.
Police arrested a third suspect, a 13-year-old boy, on Monday while a fourth suspect remained at large. The father of five had been selling CDs. Police arrested Malik Bridgewater, 20, and three other suspects on theft and burglary charges after eight handguns were stolen from a pawn shop.

“Today, District Attorney Hillar C. Moore, III announced that after reviewing 185 individual affidavits of probable cause for arrests occurring between 7/8/16 and 7/11/16, he has determined that he will not prosecute approximately 100 of these cases involving protestors only charged with the misdemeanor crimes of obstruction of a roadway or public passage”. Jackson attributed Johnson’s decision to shoot the Dallas police officers to having been trained by the military, going on to state that he should not have done it and his actions most certainly should be condemned.
Then in Dallas last Thursday, one of the protests ended with the killing of five policemen in a racially motivated attack by a black United States military veteran who opened fire on white officers.
Baton Rouge Police Chief Carl Dabadie said threats like that justified an increased show of force at the demonstrations, as officers donned riot gear after starting with a mostly reserved, low profile.
Sterling’s family asked for the day to be a peaceful celebration of life, a family spokesman, Gary Chambers, said at the opening of the service. Moore said his office is reviewing the rest of the arrests, which include allegations such as resisting arrest, carrying guns or some “act of violence”. The American Civil Liberties Union of Louisiana and other groups filed a lawsuit this week over the treatment of protesters by police.
“If you want to protest please leave now”, he told the crowd, which included two senior advisers to USA president Barack Obama.
Last week, five white police officers were shot dead at one such protest in Dallas, Texas.
