Pearl Harbor Survivors Join Others For Remembrance Ceremony
Harris quoted the “sage advice” in the motto of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association: “Keep America alert” because “eternal vigilance is the price of liberty”.
“Dec. 7 is an especially poignant anniversary for the state of Arizona, as almost half of those killed in the attack were crewmen aboard the USS Arizona”, Ducey added in a statement. At 9:48 a.m., a moment of silence was observed and a solo bugler played “Taps”, coinciding with the time that the Japanese attack began.
Service members stationed in Hawaii made sure the site was cared for.
The USS Arizona battleship was bombed and sunk during Japan’s surprise morning attack on Pearl Harbor that pulled the United States into World War II.
There was a flyover by a World War II warplane, and veterans and their families were given medals as tokens of appreciation for their service or the service of their loved ones.
Nicholson chronicled her account of that day in “Pearl Harbor Child”, a book that gives a child’s account of the attacks.
More than 2,000 lives were lost on December 7th, 1941. “When I first realized these planes were diving, they had their canopies open”.
Members of the VFW and the Military Officers Association of St. Joseph held a special ceremony at Veteran’s Park along with riverfront.
“When I die, I’m going to be buried on the Arizona where the great big hull is”, Langdell told Hawaii News Now in 2011, when he was in Honolulu for a Pearl Harbor commemoration ceremony.

Ms Tauyan said everyone came together to honor and remember the war dead and those who survived the attack. “That’s just not a name; that’s someone who was a real person, who had a real impact”, Gov. Scott Walker said. He said he would rather not make the trip because of the lousy memories it brings back.
