Pedro: Chelsea sign Spain forward from Barcelona
The 28-year-old Spaniard who links up with former Barcelona teammate, Cesc Fabregas at the Stamford Bridge after a botched deal with English giants, Manchester United, was formally introduced on Thursday.
Chelsea eventually sealed the deal for 28 million euros plus bonuses.
According to several reports, Louis van Gaal and senor officials of the club think they have a chance of luring the Wales worldwide from Real Madrid.
Coach Luis Enrique used him mainly as a substitute in 2014-15 and he came on in the Champions League final to set up Neymar to score the third goal in a 3-1 victory over Juventus.
United sources insist Van Gaal decided against signing the Spain forward after it became apparent he had reservations about moving to Old Trafford.
Burned? Never in for him?
Manchester United were reportedly leading the race to sign Pedro, but champions Chelsea have emerged as favourites to land the 28-year-old.
“That is because there was a clause in his contract, so it was the easiest transfer. I have said before what we are doing is guiding a process and in that process we make decisions”.
“I don’t want to say we won, that’s not the point”. That is the difference. The players were heavily linked with United but the club failed to sign both the players. They were all interesting games but I have good memories from them.
“He is fast and he is creative”. “I don’t basically understand what he’ll decide on but what ever he’ll have our support”.
Some reports have speculated that United actually ended their interest in Pedro after negotiations broke down, instead focusing their attentions on launching a tentative enquiry as to the availability of Southampton winger Saido Mane.
“I can not answer that question neither because I can not interfere”, he said. “I don’t even want to go in that direction”. I’m not happy with the results, the players are not happy.
