Pedro unsure on future
“It is down to consistency, minutes and I am an ambitious player”. I spoke with the captains, the president, the coach… just a few seconds with him.
Pedro came off the bench to score an extra-time victor in a 5-4 thriller over Sevilla in the European Super Cup final on Tuesday, and afterwards was ambiguous on his future.
At the presentation ceremony Pedro cut a lone figure as the rest of his Barca team-mates celebrated the Super Cup triumph, leading to speculations that the striker was well on his way out of Barcelona.
However, Pedro looks to be set on making the move away from Barcelona – with United his most likely destination – even while Liverpool have been strongly linked with the player in the past.
“The truth is I had a good chance to play, especially since of what happened to Neymar, and it wasn’t to be”. “I know that I am, and will always be, for Barca; people should not doubt that”.
Mascherano said: “Hopefully (Pedro) can continue here”.
Asked about his possible transfer to Manchester United, the player said he is still happy with where he is, but noted that if he decides to go, he will hold his head up high. “Manchester? Yes, there are nice challenges on all sides”, he explained.
The manager’s decision to drop the Spaniard for the clash pointed towards his imminent departure from the club, but Enrique has made it clear that Pedro was carrying an injury, while suggesting his current situation made him choose a more suitable XI to start the game. “It is my job to pick the team and that is what I did”, added Luis Enrique. “These fans and this club are incredible”, Pedro said in a Telegraph report. “We don’t know what he is going to do but we hope he stays”.
Lionel Messi: “Pedro deserves all the praise he gets for everything he has given to this club”.
The win over Sevilla ensures that Messi and company have now won their fourth trophy this year and are well on their way to winning another sextuple, a repeat of 2009.
