Pelicans lose Davis to injury in 111-90 loss to Clippers
It’s quite literally been a painful season to date for the New Orleans Pelicans, who had to watch their star get carried off the floor in their latest bout with adversity. Please note, NBA TV is no longer carrying this game, instead showing Warriors-Suns as Golden State tries to add to its historic win streak.
A team with three of the NBA’s top players and a fortified supporting cast finally played like it Friday night at Staples Center, looking strong for most of a 111-90 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans. Check Pelicans.com later today for coverage from shootaround in Los Angeles.
It would be a massive surprise for Davis to return against the Clippers, or to play against the Utah Jazz on Saturday but this is great news.
“It’s just varying degrees of how well you maintain it”, said Redick, who missed 31/2games earlier this month because of back issues, “but I see no reason why I won’t be able to play”.
Davis did not returned to the bench, but not to the game, finishing with 17 points and six rebounds in 28 minutes. He left with 2:47 remaining in the third quarter and L.A. leading 80-63. The Clippers went out and made Gentry look prophetic in building a 21-point halftime lead, their largest of the season.
DeAndre Jordan had eight rebounds and six points during the first 8 minutes, helping the Clippers build an 11-point margin. With the loss, New Orleans drops to 4-12 on the season and 1-8 on the road. “Ryan Anderson is averaging 19.3 points despite spending most of the time as a sixth man. The 6’10”, 240 pound forward will slide into the starting lineup. From now until December 16, the Clippers will face the T’Wolves twice, Trail Blazers, Pacers, Magic, Bulls, Nets, Pistons, and Bucks (2x) before a tough stretch that begins with their first season matchup against the San Antonio Spurs. Neither has Norris Cole (sprained left ankle) nor Quincy Pondexter (left knee). Gordon is the only player to start all 16 games, and guard Toney Douglas is the lone player on the active roster who hasn’t started one. Last season they were 32-8 when they won the battle of the boards….
