Pelicans still may make a push for point guard Rajon Rondo
The four-time All-Star confirmed the news to Marc J. Spears of ESPN’s The Undefeated.
We discussed if Rondo would be a good fit for the Bulls and Fred Hoiberg’s up-tempo play, and it seems Rondo’s playmaking ability (IE: get the ball to Butler) could be what this team and system needs.
The petulant point guard led the National Basketball Association in assists with 11.7 per game, but at 30, the Kings were willing to let him test the free agent market. Over his career, he has a PER of 16.7. Rondo also averaged 11.9 points per game with the Kings and he’s a versatile point guard who is adept at passing and scoring. Before last season Rondo was virtually ineffective anywhere outside the paint. He sees the angles.
The Bulls spent the first day of NBA Free Agency meeting with Rondo.
Rondo isn’t without his flaws, particularly as a shooter.
At one point, the idea of Rondo playing for the Bulls would have been as comical as the idea of Joakim Noah playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
After spending nine seasons with the Boston Celtics, Rondo has played with two different teams, the Dallas Mavericks and Sacramento, since his departure. Rondo’s 36 percent three-point shooting was a career high for the guard, including an impressive 41 percent on corner threes. He suffered a “season ending injury” that many think was a cover up because of the disrespect between Rondo and head coach Rick Carlisle.
