Penn State 28, Rutgers 3
The main part was that Hackenberg simplistically orchestrated the offense in a manner that exploited where Penn State appeared to have advantages and manage to still maintain a balanced attack.
Aller/Getty Images A chaotic week off the field ends with a mess on it as Rutgers falls in a 28-3 rout to Penn State. The Lions have the home field today, though the Knights won’t have to travel far.
Saturday was a unique experience for Whitehall, which took center stage on a bright and blustery night in State College.
This contest, a much bigger stage for the athletic runner, should help Barkley gain his footing at the college level of play.
Penn State running back Saquon Barkley (26) slips the tackle of… Millen didn’t let up Saturday, turning Barkley’s nickname into a national drinking game. “I really think the team’s coming together”. Bersano made four saves, while Riley Grant (Copley, Ohio), Mason Klerks (Corona, Calif.) and Kouyate each had a shot for the Blue and White.
“Well, I decided to kick it. It was … fourth-and-10 from the 11”, Wilson said, referring to the field position prior to the five-yard penalty.
Penn State head coach James Franklin, right, visits with Rutgers… “He didn’t come out of nowhere, but he made a big splash”. This is a cliche that fits almost every team, but it’s especially true of this Penn State team – they all play for each other. He has rushed for 310 yards in the last two games and ranks fifth in the Big Ten in yards per game (103.7). He needs to be more consistent with his short to intermediate passing game, because the Nittany Lions still haven’t shown enough up front to warrant a deep passing game.
Barkley now sits sixth in the FBC for average yards per run with 9.1 ypa. With 5:06 to go in the fourth quarter, Barkley ran through a gaping hole on the right side, not stopping until Rutgers’ Davon Jacobs tore him down after a 54-yard run that moved Penn State to the Knights’ 16.
But really, how could the former not finally catch up to the latter?
-OT Andrew Nelson did not play in the second half of Saturday’s win over Buffalo after aggravating a previous knee injury on the final play of the first half and could miss this week’s game against Rutgers.
“Maybe in Pop Warner, where nobody knows what they’re doing and you’re the fastest player”, Lynch said when asked if he had ever seen that much room on a run. “Obviously pass protection and things like that [are important], but to me a running back has got to bring that to the table”. There are a total of 137 players from both states. “We running backs are very competitive”. But when Saquon has goals and motivation, he stays on task.
Hartman and Whitehall are beaming now. He pleaded not guilty to a domestic violence-related assault charge after authorities say he slammed a woman onto concrete after last week’s football game.
That left Saturday night to Hartman and Boykin, who certainly enjoyed the spectacle. “I think we’re all getting to gel a little better”. “This is a great thing for Whitehall”.
The feeling here is a Penn State victory, 34-21.
Penn State ran for 2,283 yards and passed for 2,369 yards on the season.
The good news is Bell (eight first-half tackles) looked like himself, nearly immediately. But he was still able to throw for 141 yards, while Lynch and Saquon Barkley combined for 315 yards.
Even given all of that, the special teams units may have done the most to secure a win. Before this game, safety Jordan Lucas announced that he would wear jersey No. 5 this season to honor the sidelined Wartman-White. That will come in time and pretty soon we’ll have a balanced offense.”Hackenberg’s statistics through three games are mediocre, at best”.
