Penn State defenders wary of No. 14 MI passing attack
For MI, they must beat Penn State and have Ohio State beat the Spartans to set a showdown for the Big Ten East Division title in next week’s edition of The Game. MI is the better team and has faced a more hard schedule. In fact, Maryland, Northwestern and MI State combined for 125.
A combination of safeties – Malik Golden, Troy Apke and Koa Farmer along with starter Marcus Allen – will join starting cornerbacks Williams and Grant Haley in attempting to slow down Michigan’s red-hot passing offense. MI quarterback Jake Rudock connected with wide receiver Jehu Chesson on a fourth-down touchdown in the final seconds of regulation to send the game into overtime. The Wolverines’ normally stingy defense was gashed by the Hoosiers to the tune of over 300 yards on the ground and almost 530 yards in total.
“Everything was going so fast”, MI linebacker Royce Jenkins-Stone said. “More importantly, we have the ability to make them”. The Penn State Nittany Lions are shooting 37.5 percent from deep and have four players averaging at least eight points.
Barkley, who needs 164 yards to become just the second Penn State freshman to rush for 1,000 in a season, continues to improve from the ankle injury that caused him to miss 21/2 games.
Brandon Taylor led Penn State (2-1) with 14 points.
On the flip side, Michigan’s offensive line and run game needs to get back on track. “I think MI has been really playing well on defense all year long”, Franklin said. “All those attributes – talk about his accuracy, talk about his arm strength, talk about his durability, his toughness, his intelligence – but I still go back to the one that he is unflappable”. Penn State has the tools to pull off the upset on Senior Day, but who knows when or if they’ll show up.

So far this season Akhil is 8-2 picking the results of MI Football games. The Penn State defense is tough, and Jake Rudock will have his hands full trying to contend with them, but his improvement over the last two weeks had been incredible.
“He’s a dynamic player and doesn’t necessarily, physically or mentally, look like a freshman at times”, Franklin said. “We are all putting in so many hours in the off season, which shows that we all want this so bad”. We’re fortunate we have depth at that position, where if he does need a blow or we need to rotate a few guys in there, we’re able to do that.
The Wolverines’ only two losses in Jim Harbaugh’s first season as coach at his alma mater have come against ranked teams, No. 9 MI State and No. 13 Utah.
So far this season Chad is 8-2 picking the results of MI Football games.
“We have already done one hockey game and put an “S” in the student section…we have one more lined up”, Jerry Bannon, the group’s executive vice-president said. “… We’re going to have to look for ways to run the ball and be aggressive and not abandon that”.
