Penn State’s Hackenberg declares for NFL draft after bowl
When freshman wide receiver Terry Godwin, who had thrown a touchdown pass earlier, caught a 17-yard scoring flip from Greyson Lambert midway through the third quarter, Georgia held a 24-3 lead. After going 8-for-14 for 139 yards on Saturday, he finished 2015 with 2,525 yards and a 53.5 percent completion rate, both career lows.
The game had a scary moment late in the second quarter when Arkansas wide receiver Dominique Reed was carted off the field on a stretcher. A starter in every game the past two seasons, Johnson finishes his Penn State career with 154 tackles, 8.5 sacks, 24.0 TFLs. Conceivably, he could play next season at another Football Bowl Subdivision program as a graduate transfer without having to sit out a season, much like former Scranton Prep standout Kevin Reihner did for Penn State this season after graduating in the spring from Stanford. “That’s not just offense”.
“I feel like the receiving corps without Malcolm, it’s gonna be the same we’re just gonna have to have more young players step up and fill-in big shoes”, said Godwin. I don’t know if he learned anything that he didn’t already know about his new squad, but he at least got to see flashes of things I’m sure he can work with.
“My family and I felt like this was best for me”. Georgia lost to Tennessee the following week and saw star running back Nick Chubb suffer a season-ending injury.
Hackenberg did not have a great junior season, completing 53.3 percent of his passes for 2,386 yards with 16 touchdown passes.
“I’m going to enjoy this tonight”, McClendon said. “This business is about people and relationships; that’s what it’s made up of”.
“The overall season, like anybody, you want to have more catches and more opportunities”, Lewis said. I bleed blue and white, and this school means the world to me. “That’s the God’s honest truth”. He completed four short passes and ran for 14 yards to get Penn State to Georgia’s 39, but Lorenzo Carter spiked that last, desperation heave into to soggy EverBank Field turf at receiver Chris Godwin’s feet.
Hackenberg, who announced after the game that he will enter the National Football League draft, suffered a sprained throwing shoulder after he was tackled on a scramble early in the second quarter.
OR stormed to the big lead behind QB Vernon Adams Jr., but he was knocked out of the game late in the second quarter after taking a hit to the head. It comes as no surprise, as many had once tabbed Hackenberg as a top quarterback prospect for the draft.
Hackenberg will undoubtedly dazzle during draft workouts, but how his game tape stands up against his measurables will say a lot about whether or not he lives up to the first-round billing he received as just a freshman in college. The quarterback discussion will soon take over Houston airwaves with the team in need at the position when the season eventually comes to an end. “I’ve got to get ready for the spring and working with Coach Moorhead and our offense and how we’re going to be doing things”. “He was able to go from there”. He actually made some plays there.
“This is what we dream about: a chance to go down, make a game-winning drive and win the bowl game for your team and university”, McSorley said.
