Pennsylvania officer reportedly dies in shooting while responding to domestic
Reed reportedly engaged in a shootout with the suspect, 31-year-old Ray Shetler Jr.
Shelter fled the scene, and police found him early Sunday morning after a six hour manhunt.
A police officer responding to a domestic dispute in New Florence, Pa., was fatally shot Saturday. He was taken to Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown where he later died.
After the shooting police had issued a warning for the community to lock all doors and windows in their cars and homes and to report any suspicious activity in the town about 60 miles east of Pittsburgh.
“They were very minor, minor injuries that were caused by Mr. Shetler”, Limani said.
Shetler has not yet been charged with a crime and police have not provided further details about the circumstances surrounding the incident.
A Seward police officer said he heard Officer Reed’s commands before gunfire and watched the officer fall to the ground, the complaint states.
The death is the third police officer killed in the line of duty in eastern Pittsburgh suburbs since last December.
Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf ordered flags to be flown at half-staff on all state buildings in honor of Reed. It really is tough.
“My son would not just do this”, said his mother, Lorie Porter of Saltsburg.
Porter, 51, said she is trying to find out more details surrounding the shooting. Before being transported to jail, the suspect was being treated for a bullet wound sustained during the initial confrontation.
Pennsylvania State Police did not immediately return a call for comment.
