Pennsylvania state trooper shot in Philadelphia
He told reporters that he was grateful for the prayers and support he received from Philadelphians. He could be home by Thanksgiving. “I’m feeling much better”. Cotto, 17, has been charged as an adult with attempted murder and other crimes, and is held on $3 million bail.
Giovanni Cotto, the accused shooter, was arraigned Wednesday morning.
Cotto said he was grateful that his son had not been killed in the shootout. He was in a green jumpsuit after he was served a search warrant for his clothes he was wearing to be examined for gun residue. ‘I came out, there were cops down there, shooting at someone, and then someone was shooting at them’.
A man who was shot by police when they pulled him over is speaking out Tuesday night.
Pennsylvania State Police are identifying the trooper shot during a traffic stop that turned violent in Philadelphia.
Police say Cotto drove off after officers first stopped the auto and removed three other occupants.
The ordeal began at about 9:30 a.m., along Interstate 676, which runs through the center of Philadelphia, Finn said. The trooper was shot in the shoulder.
All four of the suspects were taken into custody following the altercation, The Associated Press reported.
What started out as a routine traffic stop ended in a high-speed pursuit with a fiery crash into a school bus and a police officer shot on Tuesday. The suspect’s vehicle then slammed into the rear of a school bus on the highway. The suspect got out and continued to fire on the pursuing state troopers. During the exchange, he was struck once in the shoulder.
The suspect was running down the street from police as the school bus and auto caught fire. Officials say there were no children on the bus. He was later taken to the hospital where he was in good condition Tuesday, authorities said.
Passing a cluster of TV cameras Tuesday as he was brought out of the state police barracks at Belmont, Cotto said only that he had nothing to say about the shooting.
“The male who was handcuffed and another were questioned and released”.
Kathy Lauer-Williams of The Morning Call, in an account posted on the Allentown newspaper’s website, said she saw a police cruiser try to box in the getaway auto, but the vehicle then swerved into the cruiser, sending debris flying.
He’s a good kid. I know his father.
“I apologize to him and his family”.
He says “no matter what happened, I’m going to be there for my son”.
