Pens trade Scuderi to Blackhawks for Daley Tweet Email RSSS
In a swap of under-producing defensemen that frees up precious cap space, the Blackhawks traded Trevor Daley to the Pittsburgh Penguins for veteran Rob Scuderi on Monday.
Scuderi is a two-time Stanley Cup champion.
Daley, 32, was a part of the July trade that sent forward Patrick Sharp and defenseman Stephen Johns to the Dallas Stars for Daley and forward Ryan Garbutt.
Scuderi, 36, has four assists over 25 games this season with the Pens.
Daley played 11 seasons with the Stars, scoring 67 goals and recording 231 points in 756 games, including 16 goals last season. He had six assists and was a plus-1 in 29 games.
The Syosset, N.Y., native has recorded eight goals and 96 assists for 104 points in 745 regular-season games across 12 seasons with Pittsburgh (2003-09, 2013-15) and Los Angeles (2009-13).
Daley, a lefty, potentially pairs well with Kris Letang, a righty, when Letang returns from injury.
The Penguins reportedly will retain one-third of Scuderi’s $3.375 million cap figure.
But the Penguins get a player in Daley, 32, who is four years younger and should provide a bit more of a boost to the struggling Pittsburgh blue-line corps.
