Pentagon says airstrike killed terror leader in Somalia
The first airstrike was carried out on November 13 by F-15 aircraft on a compound in the city of Derna in eastern Libya.
The Defense Department has confirmed the deaths of senior terrorist leaders in Libya and Somalia from recent USA airstrikes, Pentagon Press Secretary Peter Cook said in a statement today. This was the first airstrike against an ISIS leader in Libya.
The kill took place just one day after notorious murderer Jihadi John was killed in a United States airstrike.
The U.S. military had announced at the time Abu Nabil’s targeting, but did not confirm his death. He was believed to have been the spokesman in a video documenting the beheadings of 21 Egyptian Coptic Christians which was released by the militants in February. He is accused of being involved in operations in Barawa, Lower Shebelle and was killed in the village of Kunyo Barrow, near Mogadishu.
Abdirahman Sandhere, known as “Ukash”, was killed last Wednesday, Navy Capt. Jeff Davis said.
“This is an important step forward in the fight against Al-Shabaab, and the United States will continue to use the tools at our disposal – financial, diplomatic, intelligence and military – to dismantle Al-Shabaab and other terrorist groups who threaten United States, interests and persons”, he said. He was a senior leader of Al-Shabaab, Al-Qaeda’s affiliate in Somalia. While it is very obvious that ISIS and radical Islamists are waging a war against America and the ideals we represent it isn’t very clear what our strategy is to eradicate them and the threat of terrorism here at home in the United States.
