People Found Dead Inside Edgewater High-Rise On Christmas

Bergen County prosecutors say 53-year-old Michael Stasko, 49-year-old Melissa Stasko and 8-year-old Mellie Stasko were found Friday night at the Windsor at Mariners Tower.

Authorities say three people have been found dead in an apparent murder-suicide at a luxury high-rise apartment building in New Jersey. A motive for the killings has not been determined. “You see some cards and holiday cards”, Molinelli said.

Mellie attended George Washington Elementary School in Edgewater, a public school where she had been enrolled since kindergarten.

The bodies of Michael, Melisa and Mellie Stasko were found in their luxury Edgewater apartment on Christmas Day.

On Saturday, investigators were trying to determine what led Stasko, who sold custom watches to police officers, to kill his family. “He described the family’s apartment as “lovely” and well kept”, with neatly wrapped presents underneath a Christmas tree. Molinelli said the family had no history with police and there’s no indication they had any financial or legal problems. “They were both lying in bed when it happened and might have both been sleeping”.

Investigators had not found anyone in the building who heard gunshots, perhaps a result, in part, of Stasko’s putting a towel or blanket on the front of the gun as a silencer, Molinelli said.

Police got a call just after 7 p.m. Friday from Melissa Stasko’s concerned brother in Missouri, who said “his sister and her family were to have arrived approximately 1 o’clock today” for Christmas, the prosecutor said late Friday.
