People Honored At White House As Recipients Of Presidential Medal Of Freedom

WASHINGTON, D.C.: President Barack Obama presented the 2015 Presidential Medal of Freedom to 17 recipients in a ceremony on Tuesday, Nov. 24, at the White House.

When Barack Obama pretended not to know Barbra Streisand was Jewish at the Presidential Medal of Freedom ceremony, he got a big laugh.

Before handing out the medals, Obama told the gathered media, “Today we celebrate some extraordinary people: innovators, artists and leaders who contribute to America’s strength as a nation”. “We need a woman president, we need compassion, we need to have a person who comes from the heart”.

-William Ruckelshaus, a former chief of the Environmental Protection Agency, who formed the guiding rules of the company, together with a nationwide ban on the pesticide DDT and an settlement with the auto business to require catalytic converters to scale back vehicle air pollution.

The award was given to athletes Willie Mays and baseball hall-of-famer Yogi Berra, who was presented with the award posthumously.

The legendary entertainer has now crowded her mantle even further with the most prestigious award in all the land – the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Mays’ Major League career started in 1951 with the New York Giants, and he played through the 1973 season. Politicians include Sen. Barbara Milkulski, former Rep. Lee Hamilton and the late Shirley Chisholm.

“Steven’s films are marked, most importantly, by a faith in our common humanity”, Mr Obama says.

His Yogi Berra Museum & Learning Center is on the campus of Montclair State University in Little Falls. They’ve enriched our lives with music, thrilled us on the field, and made movies leap off the screen.

In a statement, Congressman John Sarbanes said, “As the longest-serving female member of the U.S. Senate, Senator Mikulski has not only been a staunch advocate for Marylanders but also a champion for working families across the country”. Kathering G Johnson, a mathematician for Nasa, is being recognised for her extensive work in space pioneering.
