Pep Guardiola: Manchester United’s Bastian Schweinsteiger has not been fit for
Matthaus’ former club Bayern Munich are now led by Guardiola, who has guided the Bavarians to successive Bundesliga titles since he arrived in 2013.
Schweinsteiger has been plagued by ankle and knee injuries, and Guardiola said: “When he does not have injury problems, I am completely convinced he will do very well at Manchester United”. I’m not at Barcelona so I can’t say whether he will move or not but I do know that I wish him the best because he’s a top player and top person.’.
Many believe the latter was slightly fortunate to manage some of the best players in their prime during his spell at Barcelona, and Matthaus is in a similar frame of mind, labelling Mourinho the better coach. He is going to play really good there [Manchester United].
The stats back up Guardiola’s claims as Schweinsteiger’s appearances have been on the decline in the last three seasons.
“He has won the European Championship and Champions League, he has played lots of games for Barcelona”. He has the ability to play in any team in the world and in any league in the world. “He is a great player”.
Speaking ahead of Bayern’s Audi Cup clash with AC Milan, Guardiola swerved the chance to clear up his future.
Guardiola’s Bayern contract is entering its final year and the Spaniard has been heavily linked with taking the Manchester City job next summer.
Asked to respond to Matthaus’s claims, Guardiola said: “I don’t know”.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema were both left in Madrid because of injury but Benitez said he felt that Benzema would not be joining Arsenal. I can’t say any reason why he would leave.’. “He trains really well and I am pleased with him”. “We have trained today and we were talking about his movements and what he could do for us”.
