Pep Guardiola: Schalke Made Life Hard for Bayern

Thomas Mueller scored in injury time for Bayern Munich to extend its German league lead with a 3-1 win at Schalke on Saturday, when all Bundesliga games were played amid increased security.
Pep Guardiola voiced his delight with Bayern Munich’s 3-1 Bundesliga win over Schalke as he feels the Gelsenkirchen side did not make life easy for the reigning champions. However, the favourites pervailed, thanks to second half goals from Javi Martinez and Thomas Müller.
With Schalke failing to clear a corner, the Austrian made the quick decision to shoot, and saw his long range effort deflect off Leon Goretzka and sail into the net.
Max Meyer scored the consolation for Schalke, who dropped out of the top six after losing in front of their own fans.
Max Mayer cancelled out David Alaba’s opener only for Javi Martinez to give Bayern the lead again.
The home side continued to play on the counter with Sane and Meyer, not that they had any chance as Bayern played on the front foot.
The game would remain relatively tight all the way through to the break, with Bayern unable to get themselves back ahead, whilst also looking somewhat susceptible to a go-ahead strike from the Royal Blues.
That was the warning shot, and one Schalke couldn’t respond to, conceding a second around 10 minutes later.
The game looked to be heading to a frustrating draw for the reigning champions until Arjen Robben crossed for an unmarked Martinez to head the ball in from close range.
Schalke have not beaten Bayern Munich since 2010.
It was the centre-back’s first league goal for Bayern since August 2013, then Mueller added a late third by curling his shot inside the far post.
