Perry’s 2016 campaign says its raised about $1M in 1st month
He raked in more than $17 million in about seven weeks.
The former Texas governor announced Friday that associated Super PACs bring his war chest to $18 million.
Ex- Texas Gov. Rick Perry announces his second bid for the White House in Dallas, June 4, 2015.
Although Perry is barred from coordinating with super PACs, his aides touted the fundraising by the outside groups in a campaign news release.
A third super PAC, launched just this week, took in $4 million from a single donor, according to the report.
In his speech, which was excerpted in the Journal, Perry said that President Obama “cannot be proud of the fact that the prevalence of black poverty has actually increased under his leadership”.
The GOP has struggled with Black voters since Republican presidential nominee Barry Goldwater opposed the Civil Rights Act of 1964. But, “we have enough money now to keep us competitive in this process for a long time”.
The haul by the pro-Perry groups still puts the Texan behind other Republicans in the race. The super PACs are not required to disclose their finances until the end of the month.
The super PAC haul, while far behind that of Jeb Bush’s and Ted Cruz’s, is in line with other candidates’ totals. “They know that the final decisions on strategy and execution still lie with me and our team”.
That’s why the super PACs have also spent a “significant amount” to reach a large conservative audience nationally to try to boost Perry’s polling and ensure he makes the debate stage, Barbour said.
The RealClearPolitics national poll average has Perry in eighth place out of the officially declared candidates.
As for the recent Donald Trump mania, Barbour said Perry’s exchanges with the brash businessman over immigration policies are a welcome fight.
Perry went on reveal his list of programs that included job training and education, nonviolent drug users and said that Washington will provide the necessary resources to the state to operate.
