Person hurt in railing collapse out of hospital
Over 40 people were injured Friday night at a Snoop Dogg concert in New Jersey when a railing collapsed.
The unfortunate incident, which occurred at around 10:30pm local time, led to calls from Snoop and Wiz for the fans to stand up.
The collapse occurred after Snoop and Khalifa gestured to fans to come toward the stage, officials said.
Katie Colbridge, 23, a recent Temple University graduate who attended Friday’s show, said about 50 people fell several feet to a concrete pathway below. Emergency crews were called out to the BB&T Pavilion around 10:11 p.m. on Friday night.
The railing separates the sloping lawn from a covered portion of the hall in the center of the venue. Many landed onto the concrete, while several others landed directly on top of them.
The concert was halted following the collapse and was later abandoned.
As fans began to rush, packing in tighter and tighter, all of a sudden under the massive body pressure the railing collapsed, bringing on a horrific domino effect. The person was hospitalized overnight and released on Saturday morning.
Other injuries included broken bones, according to authorities.
Basara says officials are still investigating what caused the railing to collapse in the first place.
The performance was reportedly halted as the rappers learned what happened, and the rest of the concert was later cancelled.
An announcer asked the audience to remain calm as police and medics responded to the scene, she said.
Concert organizer Live Nation quickly issued a statement which included the news that some of its employees were also injured.
