Peter Fury: We want Wladimir Klitschko rematch at Wembley in May
I want to be a great champion and I’d like to do it all again. “I was praying for it and it happened”.
“And it’s bred into me to be a fighter”.
“Absolutely point-blank, I will say Haye will never get a chance after what he did to me”, said Fury.
While Fury took a small purse to have his shot, he would earn significantly more as the defending champion next time around, particularly if he travelled to Klitschko’s adopted homeland once more.
Fury’s first defence of his three world belts could come with a rematch against Klitschko, with Peter Fury suggesting in an interview on Sunday that Wembley could stage the bout, with May 2016 a possible date. “I’m sure I’ll give it a thought or two”, said Fury.
“I always said what I’d do and I’ve delivered tonight”.
The man who calls himself the Gypsy King was visiting a local boxing club ahead of his fight with Martin Rogan and despite fighting the Belfast man in his home town, Fury had clearly endeared him to the locals. It’s not come easy.
Britain’s Tyson Fury is adamant that his new-found status as world heavyweight champion will not see him suppress his views and insists his controversial stance on social issues does prevent him from being a role model.
“The speed was missing”, the 39-year old Ukrainian boxer said. I feel good, not too sore, a little bit around the eyes and pain inside of my head but not too bad, to be honest, after a 12-round fight with the so-called best fighter on the planet.
He made good on his pre-fight predictions of dethroning Klitschko and even took to song last Wednesday to tell the champion how he would “be the one with all the belts” after the bout. I didn’t really care at that point because I knew I wasn’t doing the right training, I knew I wasn’t doing the right things. The other major belt, the WBC title, was held by Deontay Wilder of the U.S. That was vacated in 2013 by Klitschko’s older brother Vitali, the current mayor of Kiev, Ukraine.
Mancunian Fury, a 4/1 underdog, baffled Klitschko with a stylish, measured performance in which he utilised his height and youth perfectly to earn a superb win.
“But I also got involved with Tyson because he was a proper individual and restored my faith in the sport because I hated so much about it at the time”.
