Peterson, Defense Lead Way to Big Vikings Victory
That game ended with a Bengals win, 24-19. Think things are bad here? Captain Munnerlyn jumped on the ball at the San Diego 13, and the Vikings were in business inside the San Diego red zone.
As now constituted … well, consider: When what turned into a 31-14 Minnesota Vikings rout began Sunday, the Chargers had a reasonable facsimile of the offensive line they’d originally drawn up.
Philip Rivers had a decent week in week two. He had 129 yards rushing on 20 runs, with two touchdowns.
Mariota hit tight end Delanie Walker only to have the pass go off the veteran’s hands and straight to Colts safety Dwight Lowery who returned the interception 69 yards for the touchdown. In the process, they started establishing an identity as a football team, something they were never really able to do during Zimmer’s first season. “But when you can stop the run then eventually you can lay your ears back”. He’s scored twice on the ground and has caught 12 passes as well.
This should be an exciting game in one of the most evenly matched contests of Week 3. It’s safe to say that was an aberration considering he had 166 yards against Detroit and 133 against Minnesota.
Pressure also played a role.
“We were not flat”, he said.
Allen alone gives San Diego the edge, but Johnson and Floyd can cause fits for a secondary.
If Green is out, this matchup is even. The Chargers need to get better so they can do that for him every week. San Diego did get a boost on the offensive line when guard D.J. He was carted off during the team’s first game. Center Chris Watt (groin injury) missed Wednesday’s practice. Orlando Franklin is a converted tackle playing guard. Quarterback Philip Rivers has been sacked six times in the past two games, and he’s having turnover issues that the Vikings defense will try to key in on.
They haven’t lived up to the hype, but they’re healthy.
With Minneapolis being located in the Central time zone, the game was set to kick off at Noon, which means three and a half hours before the game, Zimmer had no clue if his star running back was going to be there. “We’ve still got a long way to go”. According to ESPN Stats and Information, the Chargers have allowed 3.87 yards per carry before contact this season. The Browns should have the edge, but haven’t earned it.
Looking ahead, it appears even better. San Diego chose to defer to the second half, so the Vikings started out with the football. Those were the only two plays on an 80-yard drive that included a 15-yard facemask penalty against Falcons cornerback Robert Alford.
A backup, Craig Mager, was out because of a hamstring injury, meaning that Patrick Robinson and Steve Williams bore the burden most of the day.
Eric Weddle had a game-high nine tackles. That undoubtedly serious injury is why the Chargers are dealing with Keenan Allen and Branden Oliver on punt and kick returns, respectively, after signing Jacoby to a $5.5 million deal in the offseason.
While it’s certainly fair to question McCoy’s decision-making skills, the Chargers have more than enough time to turn things around. His leg hasn’t been tested this season with a long of 40. Rivers could keep this game close and likely will, but we expect the Vikings to prevail in this game by narrow margin much as Bovada oddsmakers do.
