Petr Cech received death threats over move from Chelsea to Arsenal
Petr Cech made a move from Chelsea to fierce rivals Arsenal recently and while not numerous Blues’ faithful were entirely happy with the goalkeeper’s move to the Emirates Stadium, they understood his decision.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has secured the high-profile signings of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez in the last two offseasons, and Cech’s arrival could help the north London club move a step closer to a first Premier League title since 2004.
“There was a chance before I went to France [to join Rennes] that I could sign for Arsenal but I was only 18 or 19 and, at that time, Czech Republic were not in the European Union”, Cech told the Arsenal website.
Cech is adamant he left Chelsea on good terms with Mourinho and added: “Jose is one of the best managers in the world, our relationship hasn’t changed although he went with Thibaut Courtois last season”.
At Chelsea, he won the Champions League, four Premier Leagues, four FA Cups, three League Cups, and one Europa League after joining from French club Rennes.
Arsenal have completed the signing of goalkeeper Petr Cech from London rivals Chelsea on a long-term contract for an undisclosed fee. “In football you never know what’s round the corner and retirement is something I don’t plan”.
“But life doesn’t always turn out the way you think it will”.
A seven-time Czech Footballer of the Year, Cech made his worldwide debut in 2002. I have a lot of personal motivation and ambition and the club definitely matches it.
Mourinho – who insisted some weeks ago, that he would block Cech from moving to the Gunners if he could – says that he respects Roman Abramovich’s decision to let the stopper choose his destination, but would have preferred it if he stayed.
“I am looking forward to the new chapter, to the new challenge and I believe that what I have achieved at Chelsea I will achieve at Arsenal too”, Cech said. I support owner [Roman Abramovich’s] decision to honour the player in this way.
“In January I spoke to [Poland manager] Adam Nawalka and he said that Arsene Wenger had told him that if Szczesny worked hard in training he would play again soon”, he said.
