Peyton Manning returns to practice but will not play versus Steelers
Kubiak said he won’t rush Manning’s return and insists he may get his spot back. Wednesday will be his first practice with the team in a month.
Manning was removed in the third quarter of that game and has neither practiced nor played since. I’d imagine the Broncos coaches would like to see Manning get through a healthy week of full practice before seeing him take the field. “We went through a good week last week, gave him a weekend off, so we’ll see where he’s at”.
“I know that his foot has been sore since we left Indianapolis” on November 8, Kubiak said.
“It was a little odd to watch Peyton take those scout team reps today, but, once again, that’s just something out of my control”, Osweiler said. Initially thought to be a sure win game for the Tom Brady team, the match up proved to be the opening needed for backup quarterback Brock Osweiler.
Kubiak said that because of Pro Bowl voting and film review of Denver’s loss to Oakland, he hadn’t met with his quarterbacks yet. “I was told to go to the first-team huddle and you’re the starter this week, and that’s what I did”.
Although Osweiler ran practice this season on just about every Wednesday even when Manning was healthy, this certainly represented a real role reversal for the longtime apprentice and the five-time MVP. If Manning has been in serious pain for months now, and Archie’s comments seem to insinuate that he has, then maybe he’s been playing the game, mentally, different, too.
Osweiler lost for the first time last week, 15-12 against the Raiders, and was sacked five times.
Peyton Manning is still on the mend, if the Broncos were considering changing quarterbacks at all. I know how we ended last week, and I know what I’ve been doing since 5 o’clock this morning.
Two hours later, on his weekly show on KOA 850, the team’s flagship radio station, Kubiak clarified his comments. Osweiler has gone 3-1 in his four starts since replacing the benched Manning in Week 10 at home against their AFC West rival in the Kansas City Chiefs.
Aldermen voted 17-10 to approve the measure.
Manning won’t be active for Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, but Kubiak declined to address who will be the starter when the Broncos host the Cincinnati Bengals for a Monday night game on December 28.
