Peyton Manning says Al Jazeera ‘backpedaling’ on doping report
The performance enhancing drug was banned by the NFL in 2011 when the NFL and the NFL Players Association signed a 10-year Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Davies, the reporter behind the documentary, stressed that Al Jazeera America’s report never claimed Manning took HGH.
Manning and his wife, Ashley, were both patients of the Guyer Institute. Manning’s wife said she did have a prescription from the institute, but the name of the drug was not released.
In the documentary, Sly tells Al Jazeera about the drugs Guyer allegedly would provide his clients. Sly said in the report. This morning, Peyton manning’s pr rep firing back, former white house press secretary Ari Fleischer saying the reporter on the dark side is now backtracking and retreating correcting her own reporting using this line as evidence.
Sly since “recanted” everything he said in the documentary, including calls and conversations recorded without his consent. It was produced by Al Jazeera’s investigative unit, and will also air on Al Jazeera English.
Al Jazeera is now standing behind their report.
“We are not alleging that in the program”, Davies said.
The intern and source of the claims, Charlie Sly, could be heard in the recordings saying, “All the time we would be sending Ashley Manning drugs. I have not heard anyone deny that”. He has not, however, denied that his wife received packages.
Manning, who is now quarterback for the Denver Broncos, spent 14 seasons with the Indianapolis Colts and in 2006 led the franchise to its first Super Bowl win in three decades. Those allegations are not true. Added Peppers: Its completely erroneous and I think its irresponsible journalism, in my opinion. Another player named in the report, Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison, said he has looked into legal action only to be told it wouldnt be worth the cost. “I really can’t believe somebody would put something like this on air”.
“He said he wanted to throw out different names, and whether they were treated at the Guyer Institute”, Mortensen continued.
But The Guyer Institute; Manning’s adviser, Ari Fleischer; and Sly, in comments made after the report’s publication, said Sly was an intern at the clinic in 2013, not in 2011. “We are thoroughly familiar with Peyton’s tireless work habits, his medical history, and, most importantly, his integrity”. You hate to see your good friends go through anything like that. “I don’t know what happened, I don’t have much more than that for you”. There’s always challenging times, but he’s a tough guy. It stings me whoever this guy is to insinuate that I cut corners, I broke National Football League rules in order to get healthy.
Tom Brady spent the entire 2015 offseason in the headlines while dealing with a potential four-game suspension for his involvement in the DeflateGate scandal, so he knows what it’s like to be accused of cheating.
“He’s a big boy”, Brady responded.
