Peyton Manning Slammed In New Sexual Harassment Lawsuit
So, while the allegations about Manning have been heard before, the new part of the story is the accusation in the lawsuit is that the University of Tennessee had allowed a hostile environment for women to foster. Given that CBS and ESPN also have partnerships with the SEC, in addition to the National Football League, could the risk be twofold for those networks if it means also scrutinizing Tennessee’s role in this story?
Naughright claimed that the school asked her to change her story and say that, when she later left the Knoxville school, it was because an African-American athlete had exposed himself to her and was not because of the alleged incident with Manning. These excerpts suspiciously showed up all over the campus of Florida Southern College where Dr. Naughright worked as the Director of Health and Wellness, including an ominous letter dropped at her office door addressed to “Dr. Vulgar Mouth Whited”. The two sides reached an agreement in 2004.
However, the arrogance of Manning and his father stirred the pot back and opened all the wounds back up for Naughwright.
Back in July 2001, Peyton and his dad Archie, along with ghostwriter John Underwood, collaborated on a book called, Manning: A Father, His Sons, and a Football Legacy (you can see it here).
Naughright sued again, this time against Manning directly for defamation, but according to SI, she again never mentioned him placing his rectum or any body part on her face. This other legal action was also settled out of court. The case was settled in 1997 on the condition Naughright leave her position, the lawsuit said. No…not at all.
CBS got a front-row seat to Manning’s potential broadcasting genius before the Super Bowl, Sports Illustrated reported. The Broncos will host the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Sunday in Denver. Anheuser-Busch, the brewer of Budweiser, said Manning was not paid for the mentions, but Beer Business Daily had reported that Manning, who does many commercials in the United States, is the part-owner of a Bud distributorship in Louisiana. The men, who are awaiting trial, remained in school. Naughright has since said there was a lot more to the story. The league claims they’re looking into it, but it won’t make any where near the amount of noise DeflateGate did.
However, Peyton Manning seems to be unfazed by the allegations as the Denver Broncos star was spotted in Mexico for a family vacation by TMZ.
That claim has gained new traction, according to a Monday report by Good Morning America.
Bill Polian, the former Indianapolis Colts general manager and president who drafted Manning, told ESPN this week that the lawsuit’s brief mention of the old complaint “fits the definition of a smear… plain and simple”.
The commissioner loves to throw the word “integrity” around, but there’s no integrity with either Goodell or his soon-to-retire poster boy.
Credit Naughwright for standing up to Manning repeatedly and fighting for what’s right. It is unlikely, allegations that have been in the public sphere for some time – and were never investigated by police – will affect his eventual induction into the Hall.
The commissioner equated DeflateGate to being as egregious as the use of PEDs.
Perhaps the Mannings just wanted to control the narrative surrounding whatever happened in 1996.
