Peyton Manning to practice Wednesday., but Brock Osweiler still starting
Peyton Manning made his much-anticipated return to practice for the Broncos on Wednesday, but his reps were not for the first team.
The Broncos were happy to see Manning back on the field, but at the same time, providing proper respect to Osweiler. We went through a good week last week, gave him the weekend off, so we’ll see where we’re at. “We know who our quarterback is this weekend, we know the other one is out”, Kubiak said.
“If you’re kicking field goals in the red area and you’re not getting touchdowns eventually it will come back to bite you and that’s exactly what happened on Sunday and that’s what we are working on fixing”.
Over the past month Manning had his left foot immobilized – first in a cast, then in a walking boot – for two weeks before he restarted his rehab. It could also be the week Manning returns. And while he looked good with his throws during the individual period of practice that opened Wednesday’s practice, that was just a first step.
But what Broncos coach Gary Kubiak wants to see is Osweiler stepping forward, and not “drifting” in the pocket.
But Osweiler, in a small sample size, has outperformed Manning, with a completion percentage of 63.5, 1,140 passing yards and five touchdowns to three interceptions, though he has been sacked 17 times.
Charlie Whitehurst, who finished last week’s loss at Jacksonville, operated the first-team offense on Wednesday for the Colts as they prepare for a Sunday showdown with divisional co-leader Houston.
For the Raiders, the mentality from this point on must be that every game is a one-and-done scenario.
Brock Osweiler will remain the starter with Trevor Siemian as the backup. Latest Peyton Manning news says the 39-year old is doing great in rehabilitation program and is now day-to-day. Manning does not have the arm strength to keep defenses honest any more, while Osweiler has enough to keep them on their toes. “It’s a little different seeing Peyton run the scout team”.
“I do think if both Manning and Osweiler are healthy…that Osweiler would be the guy – in large part because he can operate from under center”, Klis wrote.
Harris and Talib shut down Oakland’s Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree last week, but the Steelers present a greater problem, with three receivers capable of making game-breaking plays.
