Pez Candy Animated Movie in the Works
Pez, the tiny pieces of candy, are more popular for the way they’re packaged than their actual flavor, as dispensers are often topped with famous character heads from which the candy pops out. There’s Star Wars, Batman, Marvel, Looney Tunes – you name it, chances are Pez has used its likeness.
A press release announced the PEZ candy movie, which will be written by Cameron Fay for Envision Media Arts. The company confirmed that scriptwriter Cameron Fey, the scribe of movies such as “The Three Stooges Movie” and “Brother in Law“, has agreed to pen the story based on the children’s candy dispensers.
The success of The Lego Movie has opened the floodgates for film spin-offs of previously unthinkable products and crazes.
Pez, the chalky, pastel-colored candy that is held in themed plastic dispensers, is getting the movie treatment. That said, they were, and are, a part of pop culture and something most people are familiar with, but…does that mean we should transform it into an animated film? This would be their biggest film yet.
No details have been provided about the plot of the potential movie, and the dispensers themselves don’t come with much of a built-in story. A PEZ movie would follow in the footsteps of Warner Bros.’ breakout 2014 hit “The Lego Movie“. “PfeffErminZ. Today, over 3 billion PEZ sweets are consumed annually in the United States of America alone”, according to the PEZ website.
