PGA Championship 2015: Rickie Fowler’s nearly ideal life?
The 26-year-old, who is yet to win a Major, hopes to complete an American clean sweep for the first time since 1982.
Fowler did say he and Phil won the press though, so Mickelson does have that and his jokes to comfort him.
“The world number seven will be hoping to achieve his maiden success in the final major of the year at Whistling Straits and he is determined to still be in contention going into the final 36 holes”. I’m trying to go with that outlook and go out there and just focus on sticking to my game plan and taking care of the business that I need to take care of out there.
If not for the play of Jordan Spieth, Jason Day would be having one of the best years in golf in regards to major championship play.
The US have not won all four majors in the same year since 1982 and if they were to achieve the feat then it would give them huge confidence heading into next year’s Ryder Cup in Minnesota.
“I feel like what Tuesday does is let you know where your game is at”.
“[It’s] just all building kind of a process into winning a major”.
Coming into the PGA Championship in very solid form – he finished outright second at the Quicken Loans National, and tied for 10th at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational – Fowler said he is investing in his process, not pot luck, when it comes to securing an elusive major title. So that’s how I’m looking at it.
Fowler, 26, said his wins in May (The Players) and July (Scottish Open) have eased the major pressure slightly.
“We talk a lot of trash out there”. When we’re kind of under the gun or have to hit certain shots or get the ball up and down or make a putt when it’s needed. So we had a good time yesterday. Jordan and Justin got us 1-up.
“I left mine in the locker room here”.
“Really just getting myself in position to win”. It makes things matter and count a little bit more, just to kind of get the juices going, getting ready for the week. “But we would be the underdogs as it stands right now”.
