PGA Championship: Matt Jones plays shot from hospitality tent
Instead of taking a free drop in the rough the 35-year-old chose to play from the carpet amongst the fans and was half a metre off hitting the green in stunning fashion.
Fellow Australian Jason Day produced a birdie blitz around the turn to take the lead from Jones late in the third round at Whistling Straits.
If you don’t know who Matt Jones is, you will after watching this impressive shot.
Dustin Johnson, the first player to lead three consecutive Majors after the first round in the modern era, got his weekend struggles in early as he limped to one-over par after 14 holes to slide to five-under par. That would have been special.
“I finally, though, hit enough good shots”.
If only he made the green and it was during a playoff to win the tournament, it’d be way better than Bubba Watson’s infamous shot at The Masters. It was just the most bad rake job I have ever seen in my life.
“It’s been two years since I’ve been at my best and it’s a little disappointing that it’s taken so long”.
Jones never really got control of that swing that caused him to land his tee shot on the artificial turf in the Ninth Hole Skyboxes.
Jones hooked his tee shot so badly on No. 9, he found himself climbing the stairs, shouldering his way through a crowd of a few hundred of his newest, bestest beer-drinking buddies in the tents left of the fairway.
Playing alongside Grace, 2010 champion Martin Kaymer – who defeated Bubba Watson in a three-hole play-off here – had carded a bogey-free 65 to finish 11 under.
