Phelps creates quite a distraction, helps Arizona State
Thursday night as Oregon State freshman guard Stephen Thompson Jr. stepped to the free throw line for two shots, the curtain flew open with two not very-in-shape ASU students dressed as Chippendale dancers flanking 22-time Olympic gold medal winning swimmer Michael Phelps.
Michael Phelps would be a gold medallist in distraction if he put his mind to it.
Following his retirement after the 2016 Olympics, Phelps will be joining the Arizona State swim staff in the 2016-17 season as a volunteer assistant coach.
Naturally, Phelps sported a swimsuit and six-pack abs with gold medals around his neck and a swim cap on his head while standing between two shirtless male students wearing bow ties.
The moment drew the loudest cheers from the crowd at Wells Fargo Arena.
It’s tough to beat the Curtain of Distraction when it comes to distracting opposing players while they shoot free throws, especially when you add in the most decorated Olympian of all time.
Arizona State coach Bobby Hurley says Phelps “made a major contribution to the game”. AP material published by LongIsland.com, isdone so with explicit permission. Doing so may result in civil and/or criminal penalties.
