Philadelphia 76ers & Los Angeles Lakers Players Don’t Give a F
At the 19th time of asking this season, the Philadelphia 76ers finally earned an National Basketball Association win by overcoming the Los Angeles Lakers in one of six Tuesday-night affairs.
The Sixers came into the game on a 28 game losing streak (0-18 this season; loss the last 10 from last season). Bryant was playing his first National Basketball Association game since announcing he would retire at the end of this season, and playing it in the town he grew up in.
Bryant made three of his first four shots – all of them 3-pointers – but finished seven-of-26 from the floor.
A third-quarter tussle between Lakers center Roy Hibbert and the Sixers’ Isaiah Canaan, JaKarr Sampson and Jerami Grant seemed to wake up the Sixers.
“Initially, I thought our guys were a little bit star-struck”, Brown said. All three were hit with technical fouls.
Afterward, Bryant talked about one special moment during the game.
General manager Mitch Kupchak has spent his entire career building rosters around Bryant, but the executive acknowledged frustration with the Lakers’ incredible struggles in Bryant’s final two seasons. “You know what I mean?”
It goes down as a new low for the Lakers, who are 2-15 and just one game into an eight-game trip that spans the better part of the next two weeks. “I would never whine, ‘Oh, you’re being too hard on me, please stop.’ That wouldn’t even sound like me”.
The Sixers shot 43.8 percent from 3-point range (14-for-32), limited their turnovers to 16 and held a 44-34 edge in points in the paint and a 12-0 advantage in fast-break points.
Philadelphia has a straight number in front of their record. Okafor also snagged five rebounds, while Russell handed out four assists. The three-time NBA MVP, who helped lead the franchise to the 1983 NBA title, died at age 60 on September 13 from cardiovascular disease.
According to the USA Today Sports, Lakers head coach Byron Scott will not be fired midseason as he is seen by the organization as an innocent bystander in Bryant’s final season. After losing to the winless 76ers, the Lakers will play the Washington Wizards in a back-to-back situation and it is unclear if Kobe will play.
