Philadelphia DA ‘not going to rush’ LeSean McCoy probe
The Philadelphia D.A. reportedly has concerns about the conduct of the off-duty police officers involved in an altercation with Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy a week and a half ago.
Fraternal Order of Police president John McNesby told 94WIP that he was frustrated that no charges had been made, via CBS Philadelphia.
“I understand that people are interested in the outcome of our investigation, but we’re not going to rush because people are impatient”, he said, citing his experience as a prosecutor as proof that he would follow through until justice is served.
“My job is to get it right, not get it fast”, Williams told a noon hour press conference, refusing to provide any details of the investigation or to say when or if any charges might ever be filed against McCoy or anyone else.
Four days after the incident, McCoy changed lawyers, adding Larry Krasner, who has represented victims of police brutality in the past, to his legal team. District Attorney Seth Williams is feeling heat from the city’s police union because two off-duty officers were injured in the February 7 brawl.
Why is it taking so long for the DA to move forward with the case?
A Philadelphia police report said Butler was knocked to the ground and “punched, kicked and stomped about his body and head multiple times”.
“This wasn’t just an assault, this was an aggravated assault”, McNesby said, based on the officers’ injuries from the fight.
The police report says the first officer took himself to the hospital where he was treated for a cut to his eye, a broken nose, broken ribs, and a sprained thumb.
LeSean McCoy’s arrest in connection with a nightclub brawl is not a foregone conclusion and several Philadelphia police officials are upset about that, ESPN reported Friday. The melee apparently erupted after McCoy’s group and the officers argued over a bottle of champagne.
McCoy’s friends who were allegedly involved were former West Catholic High School star Curtis Brinkley, 30; McCoy’s former teammate at the University of Pittsburgh, Tamarcus Porter, 27; and Christopher Henderson, 26, according to initial incident reports. Jessie was admitted to Hahnemann Hospital, where he received stitches over his left eye and treatment for a possible skull fracture.
