Philadelphia Eagles anxious About DeMarco Murray Breaking Down
COACH KELLY: Because I said I held him back.
The Eagles signed Murray in the off-season after he led the NFL in rushing yards in the 2014 season while he was with the Dallas Cowboys.
But despite the ability and talents of Murray, if the Eagles want to make the most of him for a number of years and not just squeeze him for all he’s got, it’s going to be a patient, limited ride that means drastically reducing the number of times he touches the ball. He hit three from 40, too.
“No, no, he doesn’t at all”, Murray said when asked about his workload in Dallas. That’s what happens after a season in which Parkey connected on 32 of 36 field goals, including a team-record four kicks from 50-plus yards. “But it’s embarrassing to go out there and miss two in the first game”. “He’s a pretty good kicker”.
Thank you all again, it’s your kindness that speaks volumes about these two fan bases.
“Obviously I had a couple of ups and down in the game, finished on a good one, so just go out there next week and do my thing”.
As Eagles’ Head Coach Chip Kelly has transformed his roster this offseason, it will be interesting to see how the new faces adapt to Kelly’s need for speed.
One could understand why sensitivities might be high with Parkey, even after last year’s emergence from nowhere. I don’t think you can have a guy carry it 370 to 400 times per season and be successful. Multiple players converged, with several punches thrown and Cowboys rookie defensive end Randy Gregory had his helmet ripped off by Rams rookie offensive lineman Cody Wichmann. “Just got to go out there next week and do better”.
Parkey, who had some rocky practices earlier in the week, insisted that his confidence isn’t rattled. “Like I said, they know what’s best for the team”.
“It’s not easy, no”, Parkey said Sunday of rebounding after a miss.
Parkey’s missed extra point captured attention because it was the Eagles’ first game since the league moved the extra points to the 15-yard line, making them the equivalent of a 33-yard field goal. While hate is a strong word (yet incredibly accurate) we’re all human, and I think it showed in this very brief but flawless example.
