Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz pass rebounds back
For the fifth time this season, the Birds committed a double-digit amount of penalties, many of them inexcusable: delay of game, unnecessary roughness, roughing the passer, etc. They did it because the Bengals’ beleaguered offensive line didn’t allow a sack for the first time this season and allowed quarterback Andy Dalton to sit back and carve the Eagles on almost 11 yards per attempt. For the first time since A.J. Green got hurt, the Bengals really didn’t miss him. “They’ve worked their tails off”. Their front seven just isn’t putting on the pressure like they did, recording just one sack in their last three games. He didn’t commit a turnover, completed nearly 65 percent of his passes and posted a 103.8 passer rating in three games.
Doug Pederson said on Monday his team did not quit in a horrific 32-14 loss to the Bengals a day earlier, a debacle reminiscent of some of last year’s stinkers in Chip Kelly’s final season as head coach. (He said obviously a lot.) “It’s collective effort, all three phases”. Rookies Tyler Boyd, Cody Core and Alex Erickson all had grabs and second year receiver James Wright caught two passes for 20 yards before leaving the game with a knee injury.
The Philadelphia Eagles have glaring issues at the wide receiver position. He was 8-of-18 for 67 yards at halftime.
Carson Wentz threw the ball 60 times?
“Looking at the tape and watching where Carson was scrambling of course he was heading toward out of bounds and I think he just pulled off at that point”, Pederson said. And it’s not as if he’s getting surprised by opposing defences.
That’s significant to point out since there have been times during Dalton’s previous five seasons when his play has been erratic at best.
Wentz threw a career-high three interceptions and that number would have doubled if not for the bumbling hands of several Cincinnati defenders. They finished with just 53 yards on 19 attempts, a lousy 2.8 average that was their worst of the season.
But for a first-year head coach to come out and admit it in public is rare.
“I looked up and I thought he pushed me”, Carroll said. Green, the Eagles defense was expected to bounce back.Instead the secondary was utterly picked apart by Andy Dalton.
Pederson said some of the pieces aren’t cohesive, based on youth in certain areas. The coach said, too, that Agholor may have even played every snap because Matthews would have been in the slot.
The former TCU product led a 12-play, 93-yard drive which was capped off with a 13-yard pass to tight end Tyler Eifert. The Bengals put up points on every drive of the first half and the first two of the second.
Before Doug Pederson admitted that some guys didn’t play hard in the Eagles’ 32-14 loss to the Bengals, he noted how he wanted to talk to Zach Ertz about a play in the first quarter. Cincinnati limited them to just 2.8 yards per carry.
After the defense forced a fumble, the Eagles had a chance to make it a one-possession game. For one thing, it’s hard to imagine that Lurie, after hiring two head coaches during his first 19 years of ownership, would opt to replace Pederson with the franchise’s third head coach in three years. By the time he was done, all but a handful of players had cleared out of the locker room as if a neutron bomb were detonated. His problem of staring down receivers returned as well, leading to a handful of near-picks for the Bengals defense.
While Pederson didn’t outright blame the Eagles’ slide on injuries, he raised the question.
Bengals C Eric Winston made his first start this season.
