Phillies Place Maikel Franco On Disabled List With Wrist Fracture
830 OPS in 77 games as a 22-year-old.
The Phillies have placed Franco on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured left wrist.
Philadelphia recalled outfielder Aaron Altherr from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to take Franco’s spot on the roster.
A Jeremy Hellickson pitch hit Franco on the wrist last Tuesday, and while the injury was initially labeled a contusion, a non-displaced fracture was found upon further examination.
Now, it looks like Franco’s season might be coming to a premature end. We have to be as cautious as we can, he’s too important to us. Amaro said that Cesar Hernandez and Andres Blanco will see time at third base in Franco’s absence. The third baseman had put himself in the NL Rookie of the Year conversation by hitting.277/.340/.490 with 13 homers, 48 RBIs and 22 doubles in 325 plate appearances.
