Philly police charge alleged cop shooter with attempted murder
Democratic Senator Robert Casey of Pennsylvania said that the shooting was “an act of barbarism …”
Still, the officer demonstrated his “valor and courage” by stepping out of his auto as the gunman retreated and opening fire, according to Ross. “In no way, shape or form”, said His Honor, “does anyone in this room believe that Islam or the teachings of Islam has anything to do with what you’ve seen on the screen”.
Police said in a statement on Facebook that on Saturday an officer was accosted by a citizen who said he had information about the incident.
Archer’s mother told The Philadelphia Inquirer her 30-year-old son had been hearing voices recently and had felt targeted by police. He was in critical but stable condition, police said Friday.
She described him as a longtime “devout” Muslim.
Hartnett called for backup before getting out of the vehicle and pursuing Archer, despite his injury.
Police say Archer fired at least 13 shots toward Officer Jesse Hartnett, who was able to return fire despite being seriously wounded. The report obtained Sunday goes on to say the tipster told police to “be careful”.
Ross repeatedly called Hartnett’s survival “absolutely fantastic”.
“We might be a little nervous for a while, but we’re going to do our job and help people who need help”, he said.
He was arraigned Saturday and held without bail, court documents show.
Philadelphia’s Muslim leaders also condemned the shooting. The shooter will have to carry a pillow for awhile to sit down when he, as the London newspapers famously put it in accounts of such cases, “assists police in their investigation”.
Surveillance footage of the attack showed Archer dressed in a white, long-sleeved tunic.
“We’ve already established why he believes he did it, and that’s probably enough”, Ross said.
Despite his wounds, Harnett returned fire on Archer as he fled the scene, shooting him in his buttock, before other police officers who rushed to the west Philadelphia locale took the suspect into custody. Responding officers captured the suspect and recovered a gun that had been reported stolen from a police officer in 2013.
Authorities said they were astonished Hartnett survived.
Officials said that while the video left little question about what happened, there was some doubt as to why.
“He’s a tough guy”, he said.
Hartnett, a four-year veteran, is being treated at a city hospital.
Police officers nearby arrested him. An imam at a mosque near Archer’s house said he did not know the gunman.
“He just started firing with one aim and one aim only, to kill him”. “It has nothing to do with being a Muslim or following the Islamic faith”, said Kenney who was scheduled to attend a day of painting and reflection co-sponsored by ArtWell and the Mural Arts Program at Al-Aqsa Islamic Academy on Germantown Avenue.
